Thursday
Wooster (1-0) at Sparks (0-1)
Reeves Thoughts: Wooster comes off of a terrific opening season win vs. Pershing County as Sparks comes off of a loss vs. North Valleys this should be a good game but I think Wooster is slightly better. We could see some momentum start for the Colts.
Lynn Ault's Thoughts: The Colts come into the game 1-0, Sparks 0-1, but it feels like there’s more of a gap there than one game, advantage Wooster
Michael Reeves Prediction: 35-14 Wooster
J. Ray Dockter's Prediction: 34-14 Wooster
Brady Raggio's Prediction: Wooster
Damonte Ranch (1-0) at North Valleys (1-0)
Reeves Thoughts: Damonte Ranch comes off of a dominating win against HUG last week and the Panthers win in their opener against Sparks. Has North Valleys found something or will Damonte Ranch show the difference in divisions.
Lynn Ault's Thoughts: both teams come in with 1-0 records, North Valleys beat Sparks 42-7 and Damonte shut-out Hug 51-0. The Panthers host Damonte and Head Coach Ty Gregg who returns to the school where he was the head coach (2009-2013). The Mustangs are playing with a serious chip on their shoulder after seeing and hearing all the dire predictions for this year, advantage Mustangs
Michael Reeves Prediction: Damonte Ranch 49-14
J. Ray Dockter's Prediction: Damonte Ranch 41-27
Brady Raggio's Prediction: Damonte Ranch
Reed (1-0) at Del Oro (Loomis, CA.) (0-1)
Reeves Thoughts: Reed comes off of a thrilling victory vs. Churchill last week as Del Oro lost but looks to face a Reed team that could create more competitive opportunities.
Lynn Ault's Thoughts: Del Oro, a NorCal regional power, opened the season with a 50-34 victory over Inderkum, and are the 67 th ranked team in California. They boast a balanced offensive attack, last week they threw for 290 yards and rushed for 175. I see Reed keeping it close, but advantage Del Oro
Michael Reeves Prediction: Del Oro 42-28
J. Ray Dockter's Prediction: Del Oro 28-21
Brady Raggio's Prediction: Del Oro
Shadow Ridge (Las Vegas, NV.) (1-0) at Spanish Springs (0-1)
Reeves Thoughts: Shadow Ridge is one of the most dominating teams in Nevada at 1-0 they look get another win against a Cougars team trying to find their way early in the season.
Lynn Ault's Thoughts: Shadow Ridge makes the trip to Reno, from Las Vegas, as
the 7 th ranked team in the 5A. Last week Shadow Ridge defeated Legacy (LV) 35-19 while Spanish Springs dropped a tough one in California, 54-14 to the 23 rd ranked team in California, Oak Ridge. These North/South games are always fascinating for both sides. Shadow Ridge loves to run the ball, 376 yards last week, led by senior running back, Evan Cannon, who rushed for 228 yards. Spanish Springs will have to find a way to win a physical game and I believe they’ll load the box, forcing Shadow Ridge to throw the ball, which they are not comfortable doing, Spanish Springs wins a close one, advantage Spanish Springs
Michael Reeves Prediction: Shadow Ridge 35-21
J. Ray Dockter's Prediction: Shadow Ridge 42-14
Brady Raggio's Prediction: Shadow Ridge
Northgate (Walnut Creek, CA.) (0-0) at Reno (0-1)
Reeves Thoughts: Northgate is a team that plays some of the toughest teams in Northern CA. they look to open their season against a team that is trying to bounce back after a tough loss.
Lynn Ault's Thoughts: Northgate are the 331 st ranked team in California and will be playing
their first game of the year. The road, altitude, and first-game jitters will be too much for the Broncos to overcome, advantage Reno High
Michael Reeves Prediction: Reno 21-20
J. Ray Dockter's Prediction: Northgate 24-14
Brady Raggio's Prediction: Reno
Calaveras (San Andreas, CA.) (0-1) at Carson (0-1)
Reeves Thoughts: The Senators need to find their offense to win this game can they do so or will it be more of the same from their season opener.
Lynn Ault's Thoughts: both teams are looking for a win. The Red Hawks went 0-10 last
season, there’s no need to filibuster, advantage Carson
Michael Reeves Prediction: Carson 17-14
J. Ray Dockter's Prediction: Calaveras 35-34
Brady Raggio's Prediction: Carson
Elko (0-1) at Douglas (1-0)
Reeves Thoughts: GAME OF THE WEEK you heard it here first if you have a preference on what game to go to this is our pick.
Lynn Ault's Thoughts: Douglas might have been the week one Battle Born Preps surprise team by posting a 40-0 victory over Argonaut (CA). Elko comes in 0-1, dropping a close game, in Idaho, to Skyview, 29-26. Elko’s balanced offensive attack will challenge Douglas who wasn’t tested last week. Last year Elko went 9-3, and only lost to eventual state champion, Truckee, by a single score (21-14). The Indians will be out to prove a point, but the Tigers will pass the test, advantage Douglas
Michael Reeves Prediction: Tigers 35-7
J. Ray Dockter's Prediction: Elko 42-41
Brady Raggio's Prediction: Elko
Galena (1-0) at Yuba City (1-0)
Reeves Thoughts: Not a ton of information on Yuba City this was a tough game to pick but if Galena plays their brand of football I believe they can get the victory.
Lynn Ault's Thoughts: both teams come into the 1-0, Yuba knocked off Natomas 45-12 last week while Galena blanked Spring Creek 24-0. Yuba is ranked 206 th in California and are a ground and pound squad, rushing for 195 yards last week. I believe the Grizzlies will be able to slow the Honkers (that is their mascot) down while frustrating their defense with a balanced attack, advantage Galena
Michael Reeves Prediction: Galena 35-14
J. Ray Dockter's Prediction: Galena 21-10
Brady Raggio's Prediction: Yuba City
Lowry (0-1) at HUG (0-1)
Reeves Thoughts: Lowry and HUG are looking to improve upon their opening week losses. One team will emerge victorious we believe it's Lowry in a tight game.
Michael Reeves Prediction: Lowry 21-20
J. Ray Dockter's Prediction: Lowry 28-20
Brady Raggio's Prediction: Lowry
Lynn Ault Prediction: Lowry
Rocklin (1-0) at McQueen (0-1)
Reeves Thoughts: McQueen disappointed in their opener and playing a powerhouse in Rocklin this will be a tough one for them to bounce back in.
Lynn Ault's Thoughts: Rocklin, ranked number 32 in California, make the trip to Reno with a
1-0 record after a 31-3 victory last week. Week one, Rocklin threw for 157 yards and ran for 149. This is one I have gone back and forth on, I can see a path to victory for both teams, and while my heart says McQueen, my head tells me Rocklin leaves Reno 2-0, advantage Rocklin
Michael Reeves Prediction: Rocklin 49-14
J. Ray Dockter's Prediction: Rocklin 41-21
Brady Raggio's Prediction: Rocklin
Bishop Manogue (0-0) at Jesuit (Carmichael, CA.) (0-0)
Reeves Thoughts: Bishop Manogue had 3 opportunities to win in this matchup at home last year can they do it on the road this year.
Lynn Ault's Thoughts: first game for both squads, expect opening game jitters and that
means no advantage for either team. Last year Jesuit went 9-3 including a win, in Reno, at the expense of the Miners, 30-23. Manogue had a 16-14 lead at the half, but two third quarter touchdowns propelled the Marauders to the win. The Marauders are ranked 146 th in CA and should pose a stern opening test for the Miners, advantage Jesuit
Michael Reeves Prediction: BM 24-21
J. Ray Dockter's Prediction: BM 28-27
Brady Raggio's Prediction: Jesuit
Truckee (1-0) Vs. East Nicolaus (0-0)
Reeves Thoughts: J. Ray Dockter being a part of Truckee Football wanted us to include this game in our picks. The real question is if we all pick Truckee the rest of the way will we be wrong in our picks or will Truckee win it all again.
