2025 Week 4 Football Picks

THIS WEEKS PICKS (SEPTEMBER 5th)

For deeper analysis from Michael Reeves and Brady Raggio listen/watch this weeks podcast

7PM Carson Senators (1-1) Vs. Spanish Springs Cougars (2-0)

Dockter’s Prognosis: The Senators went down to Southern Nevada last week and defeated Canyon Springs while evening their record on the season and getting Head Coach Steve Nelms his First Varsity victory but will be overmatched in this one. The Cougs have been piling up points and yardage offensively this season and should roll in this one as they have started their season off averaging 41.5 points per game while only allowing 17 points per game.

Lynn’s Take: SSHS’s defense has surrendered 17 points per game, two games, both tough CA squads

  • ·       Reeves’ Pick: Spanish Springs 42-14

  • ·       Dockter’s Pick: Spanish Springs 48-6

  • ·       Ault's Pick: Spanish Springs 45-7

  • ·       Raggio's Pick: Spanish Springs

7PM Churchill County (Fallon) Greewave (3-0) Vs. Truckee Wolverines (2-0)

Dockter’s Prognosis: The Game of The Week in The 3A this week sees The Greenwave head across state lines to take on The Truckee (Calif.) Wolverines. Churchill County comes into this game red hot to begin the season as they have rolled up over 1,300 yards of offense and scored 131 points in three games to begin the season. They had a very successful group of underclassmen last season at the lower levels and combine that with being shutout, 42-0 at home last year and this group will be highly motivated. Truckee comes into this game quietly averaging 33 points per game playing very tough competition; they are getting it done with a “ground and pound” approach offensively thus far in the season. Truckee Junior RB Ivan Esparza has rolled up almost 300 yards of total offense and has six touchdowns already this season. Truckee has not lost a home game since late 2021 and has not lost a game to a Northern 3A opponent since early 2022 - it’s hard for opposing teams to win at Surprise Stadium and for that reason I’m rolling with The Wolverines in this early season tilt that has playoff implications on the line.

Lynn’s Take: For no discernable reason, Maxpreps has Truckee ranked 169th in Nevada

Truckee has won the last two matchups CCHS is averaging 44 ppg on offense, surrendering 2 points per game On paper the matchup favors CCHS I am riding with Truckee until they are beaten.

  • ·       Reeves’ Pick: Truckee 35-21

  • ·       Dockter’s Pick: Truckee 34-28

  • ·       Ault's Pick: Truckee 31-28

  • ·       Raggio's Pick: Truckee

7PM Wooster Colts (0-2) Vs. Damonte Ranch Mustangs (1-1)

Dockter’s Prognosis: Wooster will look to score their first points of the young season as they take on Damonte Ranch in each team’s third game the season. The Mustangs have scored 75 points in their first two games and I anticipate that they’ll have similar per game production for this one in what should be their last game without JJ Milan, Maurice Carter and Amari Nash.

  • ·       Reeves’ Pick: Damonte Ranch 35-7

  • ·       Dockter’s Pick: Damonte Ranch 41-6

  • ·       Ault's Pick: Damonte Ranch 42-7

  • ·       Raggio's Pick: Damonte Ranch

7PM Sequoia Ravens (1-0) Vs. Reno Huskies (2-0)

Dockter’s Prognosis: QB Braylon Wilson returned for The Huskies last week and led them to a come-from-behind victory at home to kick off his final season in Red, White and Blue. I’m rolling with The Huskies in this one.

Lynn’s Take: Reno defeated a higher ranked CA Foothill squad last week, going to keep backing the Huskies

  • ·       Reeves’ Pick: Reno 42-21

  • ·       Dockter’s Pick: Reno 30-27

  • ·       Ault's Pick: Reno 31-10

  • ·       Raggio's Pick: Reno

7PM Burbank Bulldogs (1-1) Vs. Galena Grizzlies (1-0)

Dockter’s Prognosis: The Bulldogs of Burbank (Calif.) arrive in Northern Nevada on the heels of winning against Westwood, 41-27, last week. The stats say they (The Burbank Bulldogs) are explosive offensively. The Grizz waited two additional weeks to get their season started and last week I said I expected them to “come out with their hair on fire” due to the extended wait they had to endure to begin the season. I was correct as the defense led the charge rolling up 13 sacks on the road against North Valleys during their season opening 21-7 victory. It’s strength vs. strength in this one but unfortunately I believe that The Bulldogs will bite The Grizzlies one too many times leading to a stunned South Reno crowd and a happy trip home to Southern California for the road team.

  • ·       Reeves’ Pick: Burbank 28-24

  • ·       Dockter’s Pick: Burbank 41-21

  • ·       Ault's Pick: Burbank 35-28

  • ·       Raggio's Pick: Burbank

7PM McQueen Lancers (2-1) Vs. Reed Raiders (0-1)

Dockter’s Prognosis: This game is a tough one to pick as McQ has looked much improved in the early portion of the season rolling up over 1,060 yards of total offense. They have also increased their scoring output each week going from 29 to 38 to 48 in their first three games. This squad is trending up, up, up right now after having had two down seasons. Also, shoutout to their defense as they’ve decreased their points allowed each week from 36 to 11 to 0 last week. It was The Lancers first shutout since last season’s 46-0 victory against Hug to open their season. Shoutout to the following seniors; RB Nason Rodriguez, WRs Alex Grush and Aiden Hayes as well as TE/LB Brooks Porter among others on getting The Lancers back on track this season. Reed began their season two weeks after most of the rest of Northern Nevada and I think last week’s performance showed they had some rust they needed to knock off. Fear not Raider Nation as The Baring Blvd. Boys seem primed and ready to go for their home opener and I’d expect them to have a very spirited effort in front of the home crowd with the hope that they can prove once again that they will be a contender for this year’s “Large Class Regional Championship.” Look for Bron Rios and Shaysan Rivera to set the tone for The Blue and Gold in this early season tilt that will provide a measuring stick for both teams this season. I think this will be a hyper competitive game but I’m gonna give the slight edge to the home team in this one.

  • ·       Reeves’ Pick: Reed 42-35

  • ·       Dockter’s Pick: Reed 35-34

  • ·       Ault's Pick: Reed 28-21

  • ·       Raggio's Pick: Reed

7PM Douglas Tigers (0-2) Vs. Sutter Huskies (2-0)

Dockter’s Prognosis: Douglas has been outscored 50-21 in two games this season while Sutter has outscored their opponents  119-20 through two games. I desperately want to roll with The Tigers in this one but the numbers are telling me a different story. I hope I’m wrong.

Lynn’s Take: Sutter’s averaging 60 points per game on offense

  • ·       Reeves’ Pick: Sutter 35-21

  • ·       Dockter’s Pick: Sutter 28-21

  • ·       Ault's Pick: Sutter 56-21

  • ·       Raggio's Pick: Sutter

7PM Wheatland Pirates (1-1) Vs. North Valleys Panthers (0-3)

Dockter’s Prognosis: Wheatland has been outscored 50-26 in two games this season but manages to come into this game with a 1-1 record after winning 12-8 last week against Union Mine (Calif.), who was coming off a 38-11 defeat at the hands of The McQueen Lancers the week before. The North Valleys Panthers seem to be stuck in neutral to begin the season having gone 0-3 while allowing 85 points defensively and only scoring 21 points offensively. Both of these squads come in with negative plus/minus scoring margins so one team will hopefully break out of their scoring funk… hopefully - but I wouldn’t hold my breath. My Black and Teal wants to show through here but I’m skeptical that that is just wishful thinking on my part. Prove me wrong Panthers, please, please, please as an Alum of the program please prove me wrong.

  • ·       Reeves’ Pick: Wheatland 28-24

  • ·       Dockter’s Pick: Wheatland 13-6

  • ·       Ault's Pick: North Valleys 23-21

  • ·       Raggio's Pick: North Valleys
